We just had a bunch of rain and the hills are now a beautiful carpet of green. It was foggy and cold, but I was determined to paint. "Depart from reality" I kept telling myself. I have started to notice that when I go out to paint plein air I get so caught up in getting everything just right that the painting loses it's magic for me. THis time I'm going to use my "Artist License". It is cold, but I'm going to use a warm color scheme. The squash rows are angling off to the left, but I'm changing the perspective toward the farm house in the distance. The hills are green in reality, but in my painting they are warm Napels yellow. I love my artist license. I feel so powerful. Now if I could just hold the paint brush in between my freezing fingers.
