The Cambria Allied Arts Association decided to try out a size required show for a fund raiser. All of the entries were to be 8"x8". The participants could enter up to three pieces. If the artist bought the canvas from Allied Arts Gallery the entry fee was waived. Almost all of the entries were on the stamped canvases. There were about 110 entries in all. Over the course of the two day show 15 paintings sold. All of the paintings were for sale for $75.00 each.
On Saturday there were demonstrating artists doing a variety of mediums along the side where you see the blue table clothes. Tish and Doreen made yummy goodies that made art viewing complete.
My row of three hung below some landscapes and Tish's pelicans, which were my hubby's favorite. So much for loyalty (just kidding). My little 8"x8" paintings did not sell, but that is okay.
Let me tell you, there were some REALLY great paintings there. My favorites were Michelle Smith's "Yummy" series of paintings and Shelley (Tish's daughter) Paton created three with paper. Really cool stuff!
Another thing about this show that was really fun was the number of ways that artists thought about stepping outside the parameters. We are such rebels, you know! Pat Hascell was so clever to think of turning her canvas backward and working on the back side. She made it appear that the stretcher bars were a window and added a ledge with items on it. So clever Pat!
Another artist that pushed the limits was Destiny Carter. She noticed that the submission form said, "Must have wire hanger." So she thought she would stand out more by hanging her painting at a diagonal instead of the standard straight square. She did not sell her diamond handing flower, she did sell Frank next to it. I give her applause ether way, for thinking past the obvious solution.
The show was a lot of fun. We made a great memory and have a starting point for future shows.
