In Julia Cameron's book, The Artists Way she explains how important it is for creative people to refill the reservoir that is draw upon so much. We can't expect our creativity to be a pitcher that never empties. We simply MUST go out and be inspired! That is where Julia has coined the "Artist Date" concept. Take yourself out or call up a partner to just go out with and look at stuff. Museums, store windows or in this case it was yarn shops and thrift stores with my sister. We spent the day Thrift Shop Hopping and at a few Yarn Shops on our inspiration day trip. The places where we could get ideas flowing back into our pitchers.
Since I'm working on Altered Books right now, the Thrift Shop was a good place for me to scrounge around and find little castaway bits that would spark new ideas for pages. I scored some great rubberstamps that were from a bank and a pasta rolling pin.
The rubberstamps say, Authorization Revoked, Confirmation, Repossessed, Renewed and Sample. There were others in the box full of stuff, but these were the ones speaking to me. Oh, the application possibilities! The pasta rolling pin is going in my clay tool bucket after I use it for some repousse' techniques I have in mind.
My sister is a Knitwit and fondled all the yarn in the Ball & Skein shop. She makes socks a lot. Here she is showing me some of the yummy sock colors and patterns she found. Even though I don't get real excited about knitting and crocheting, it is pretty fun to touch all the various yarns and soak in the colors. Ah, happy soul and a full pitcher of creative juice.
Our Artist Date was very successful. I love my Sister.
